If you've been reading this blog all along, I'm sure you know by now that I am a huge geek. I'm sure that this will prove once and for all just how geeky I am. I've been sitting here trying to figure out what you call a person from Massachusetts.... perhaps a Massachusettsian? So somehow this led, by my wacky chain of thoughts, to wondering what other ones are.
And then I realized that a couple weeks ago while I was driving around New England I was trying to figure out what each state is... like California is the Golden State and New York is the Empire State (most license plates say this, but not all of them). So here we go, I found a list of states with their nicknames, and what their people are called. Here you are... my geekhood, in all its glory.

Alabama - Alabamans - The Yellowhammer State (huh?)

Alaska - Alaskans - The Last Frontier (now that's a little self-righteous, isn't it?)

Arizona - Arizonans - The Grand Canyon State

Arkansas - Arkansans - The Natural State

California - Californians - The Golden State

Colorado - Coloradans - The Centennial State

Connecticut - Connecticutians? Nutmeggers?- The Constitution State

Delaware - Delawarieans - The First State (That's about all Delaware has going for it.)

Florida - Floridians - The Sunshine State

Georgia - Georgians - The Peach State

Hawaii - Hawaiians - The Aloha State

Idaho - Idahoans? IdaHOES??? - The Gem State (No, YOU da ho!)

Illinois - Illinoisans - The Prairie State (I always thought it was the Land of Lincoln.)

Indiana - Indianans - The Hoosier State (What is a Hoosier anyway? Besides the movie.)

Iowa - Iowans - The Hawkeye State

Kansas - Kansan - The Sunflower State

Kentucky - Kentuckians - The Bluegrass State

Louisiana - Louisianans - The Pelican State

Maine - Mainers (or Mainiacs) - The Pine Tree State (or Vacationland, or Lobsterville)

Maryland - Marylanders - The Old Line State (is that a cocaine reference?)

Massachusetts - Massachusettsians? Bay Staters? - The Bay State

Michigan - Michiganians - The Wolverine State or The Great Lake State

Minnesota - Minnesotans - The North Star State or The Land of 10,000 Lakes (that's a lot of lakes)

Mississippi - Mississippians - The Magnolia State

Missouri - Missourians - The Show Me State (only if you show me yours)

Montana - Montanans - The Treasure State (I thought it was Big Sky Country)

Nebraska - Nebraskans - The Cocksucker, errr, Cornhusker State

Nevada - Nevadans - The Silver State (or the State that has no laws)

New Hampshire - New Hampshirites - The Granite State (wow, granite, uh, sweet)

New Jersey - New Jerseyites - The Garden State (also a great movie, by the way)

New Mexico - New Mexicans - The Land of Enchanment

New York - New Yorkers - The Empire State

North Carolina - North Carolinians - The Tar Heel State (isn't that kind of racist? or am I thinking of tar babies?)

North Dakota - North Dakotans - Peace Garden State, Flickertail State, or Roughrider State

Ohio - Ohioans - The Buckeye State

Oklahoma - Oklahomans - The Sooner State (as in "I'd Sooner die than return to Oklahoma.)

Oregon - Oregonians - The Beaver State (seriously?)

Pennsylvania - Pennsylvanians - The Keystone State (hmm, better than the Natural Light state, I guess)

Rhode Island - Rhode Islanders - The Ocean State (it's neither a rhode, nor an island, discuss)

South Carolina - South Carolinians - The Palmetto State

South Dakota - South Dakotans - The Mount Rushmore State

Tennessee - Tennesseans - The Volunteer State

Texas - Texans - The Lone Star State

Utah - Utahns? Mormons? - The Beehive State (is that in reference to the hairdo?)

Vermont - Vermonters - The Green Mountain State (there's more than just green "mountains" there, from what i hear)

Virginia - Virginians - The Old Dominion State (does that mean W. Va is the 'old Submission' state?)

Washington - Washingtonians - The Evergreen State

West Virginia - West Virginians - The Mountain State (guess not)

Wisconsin - Wisconsinites - The Badger State (less filthy than oregon)

Wyoming - Wyomingites - The Equality State

Isn't is great when a webpage can be both entertaining and educational? Haha, too bad mine is neither.
:-p

Some of your comments will now be forever what the states are known for/as in my mind. That was awesome. -Piece

A jump-to-conclusions-mat may have been a better idea than this post.
